2019 upcycle challenge

The Upcycle Challenge was the place to bid on hand-crafted, repurposed pieces created by Minneapolis’ top style influencers and tastemakers. We recruited local partners to repurpose a pre-loved chair from Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity ReStore using Valspar paint and additional materials their creative minds can come up with!  Furniture was auctioned off at the show with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the ReStore.

primary-logo-bw-70Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity's mission is to eliminate poverty housing from the Twin Cities and to make safe, decent, affordable shelter for all people a matter of conscience. Twin Cities Habitat is committed to building the quality of life, health, and economic prosperity of the region by producing, preserving, and advocating for affordable homeownership – because homes and families are the foundation of successful communities.

One of the most popular items sold at the Twin Cities Habitat ReStore are Adirondack chairs and toy boxes built through youth workshops. These chairs not only generate funding for our mission, but also provide a hands-on building opportunity for volunteers who are too young to help with construction on our Habitat homes.

Twice a month Twin Cities Habitat facilitates youth workshops. We work alongside youth groups from all over the 7-county metro. Our partnering groups help recruit youth, chaperones and provide a space to build. We bring precut kits, tools and experienced volunteers.

Annie Sloan - Stockist logo - Graphite (1)These upcycled Adirondack chairs were painted in Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan, and sealed for outdoor use. Now a global phenomenon, Annie Sloan first developed the Chalk Paint® range in 1990 to answer the need she had for a versatile paint that would work beautifully on furniture without priming or sanding; that would be easy to use and quick to dry; and that could be used for a number of different paint techniques. She called it Chalk Paint® because of its velvety, ultra matte finish. Chalk Paint® products and painting workshops are available from Carver Junk Company.
